Hello Everyone! I’m Laura, and I’m thrilled to share my 2018 running journey with the Mizuno family, as well as learn about yours. My running story began 25 years ago in Midvale, UT. I ran through AAU as a youth, then competed in high school, before running at the University of Colorado where I was part of the 2004 National Championship team.
Running is something I’ve always loved; from day one it just felt right. Even after all these years I still love to run, train, and compete. That is the part of my life that I’ll be sharing with you over this next year. As a mother, business owner and athlete, I’d like to share with you what gets me out the door.
Getting out the door for a run makes me a better mother. It’s that one moment of me time I get before the day. And let’s be honest, I need all the endorphins I can get when dealing with my 2-year-old. It gives me the energy and endurance to keep up with my 3 boys. It helps with my overall mood and how I approach the day. When I don’t have an opportunity to run solo, it’s also a great way to get outdoors with my son in the baby jogger. He loves joining me on runs and sometimes that’s all the motivation I need.
My run fuels my creativity as a designer. During the actual run, my mind is free to wander on what I want to accomplish. I’m inspired by nature: the seasons and my surroundings. I find post-run that I’m more productive and more creative. On days when I miss a run, I notice I’m less focused and lack energy. So, I go run…
As an athlete there is one constant. That constant is setting goals. Those goals once were to run lifetime bests and win titles. Today, those goals might be to run a distance I’ve never run before, beat my time on a course from last year or run a fast time in the mile.
No matter what the specific goal is, the purpose it serves is to push me outside my comfort zone. That’s where you really start learning about yourself as an athlete.
This is what motivates me to run consistently each day. What gets you out the door? I look forward to sharing more with you each month.
Happy New Year!
