Straight from the Boss: Motivation and Drive

We asked two-time Olympic Medalist April Ross how she continues to find the motivation and drive to succeed. Follow along below to see how she responded.

It’s about following your heart. You want to be good and you want to do well but, it’s more about loving what you are doing and the people around you.

Ask yourself, “Is this meaningful to me?” That is what is going to drive you in everything you do. When you love everything you do, you are going to work harder at it.

If you really do want to succeed at what you are doing and what you love doing then, you are going to put in the extra effort. You must put in that extra effort. You can’t just show up to practices. You need to think about what you can do to get better. Is it jumping higher, becoming stronger or faster? That’s what needs to drive you.

Even if you aren’t the best on the team or in the starting lineup, it’s still important for you to do what you love and be there for your teammates. If you are a backup, your goal should be to focus on making the starting lineup as good as they can be. At the end of the day, it’s about being on a team and working together to help your team get better.

You are going to learn things from playing a sport and being in volleyball that will serve you down the line. As long as you are being your best and showing up and trying your hardest every day, that’s what matters the most.
