A Closer Look at The Wave Prophecy 1:
Taking its place at the head of the table, the Mizuno Sportstyle Wave Prophecy 1 exemplifies the Wave Prophecy Silo in its finest form – taking us back to 2011 where it all began.
Mizuno’s Wave Tech first hit the market in 1997, and from then on, their product team spent over a decade developing a full-length iteration of their mechanical cushioning system to position themselves ahead of equally progressive competitors. Once Mizuno had perfected this, however, they built beyond on the hybrid sole previously poised underfoot the Wave Creation and Infinity Moc to produce something more drastic.
EVA foam previously slotted at the forefoot had been removed, and in its place, Wave Plates adjoined by struts; a method of manufacturing that not only prolonged the silhouette’s wearable lifespan, but also smoothed the wearer’s heel-to-toe glide, or roll.
Aesthetically, the Japanese brand’s Infi nity Wave Silo has always been ahead of its time, and topping that roster, the Wave Prophecy 1 was Mizuno’s very first silhouette to feature the recognizable full-length Infi nity Wave tooling. A sole inspired by motion as two plates adjoin at ten separate locations underfoot.
The Wave Prophecy 1 first made its name as a stability shoe that controlled how the foot rolls from heel strike to toe lift-off, only to be adopted by those on the front lines of sports and lifestyle culture. An incredibly influential subculture of street life is spotlighted by our editorial protagonists, as they take to the streets of downtown São Paulo with immeasurable, raw energy, immortalizing what has become a landmark model for so many.
Despite seeing first light over a decade ago, the spirit has been kept alive by those at the culture’s heart, those invested within an ecosystem of cultural wealth as stories are told through the director’s lens. Spotlighting nuances of sportswear that are echoed by cultural narrators around the world.
Both red and blue are set to hit the market in June, whereas a third black colorway shall land in August.
Get to know Mizuno:
Founded in 1906 by brothers, Rihachi and Rizo, Mizuno was the bi-product of a shared love for Westerly sporting culture at Osaka’s heart. As momentum grew, so did the brand’s industry-wide grasp on a number of popular sports – breaking bread between the likes of athletics, tennis, golf, and football to name but a few.
Since day one, progressive products have been created for some of the world’s most highly-regarded athletes, paying particular attention to sustainability via elevated production and focus on performance-tech thereafter.
