Welcome to New York!
This past week, I had the opportunity to attend New York Fashion Week for work. As a designer, this was really exciting for me as it’s always been a dream of mine to be a part of NYFW. In addition to my passion for fashion, I also love the Big Apple for the athletic achievements the city has brought me. As a high school athlete, I was fortunate enough to win two National Indoor Championships racing the two mile at New York’s historic Armory Track. I don’t race on indoor tracks anymore, but I still love running through Central Park when I’m visiting NYC. My most memorable work trips are the ones where I get the opportunity to blend business with pleasure.
You Never Know Who You’ll Run Into
Like most work trips it can be quite hectic, but not as busy as mom life at home. This is an ideal time for me to get some inspiring runs in. I like to explore new areas by foot. NYC has some of the best running around, from Central Park to the Hudson River path there is a great variety of sites to see. Central Park alone is endless miles of bike paths and soft trails. The running community here is thriving, and you will always have motivation from other runners to keep you going. While running, I even ran into former University of Colorado teammates and World Champions Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn. Of course I had to tag along for a few extra [fast] miles while catching up. That’s what I love about this city!
My Kind of Runway
The pros weren’t just in the city for fun. They were in town to compete in the 5th Avenue Road Mile. So what’s a girl to do than to hop in a quick mile down 5th Avenue before catching my flight back home. And the cherry on top of my week in the Big Apple? Jenny Simpson crowned me “the fastest fashionista in town.”
