New York Times Article on Mizuno Race Team Member Serena Burla

The New York Times recently published a feature article on Mizuno Race Team Member Serena Burla. Burla had a cancerous tumor removed from her right hamstring in January of 2010, following her second place finish at the US Half Marathon Championships. The cancer threatened to end her running career for good, but a “Never Settle” spirit has seen her return to competitive racing. Burla’s story is truly inspirational, and the New York Times does an excellent job of portraying Burla as the fierce competitor that she is. Needless to say, this is a must-read.

Team Mizuno’s Serena Burla Beats The Odds; Runs New York City Marathon

Last January, Serena Burla was having so much trouble with her right hamstring that she briefly considered not starting the Houston Half Marathon which served as the 2010 USA National Championships. The hamstring had been chronically sore, but as Burla warmed up for the Houston race, it tightened and became so painful that her coach suggested that she not start the race. But Burla decided to gut it out and amazingly, finished second to Shalane Flanagan in a personal best by more than a minute in 1:10:08.
